Well, the verdict is in: surgery it is. Arthroscopic ankle surgery scheduled for Wednesday. I had hoped the steroid shot I got 3 weeks ago would give me some relief, but even after waiting the 3 days to let it all settle and set in, it made no difference and I’m still in pain. I saw the surgeon for my follow up this week and we decided to take the next most logical step. He will go in with a scope and take a look at everything, clear out the inflammation and any scar tissue, and then do any necessary repair to my ligaments and tendons. I should have a full and complete recovery and be able to return to all my normal activity once I’m fully healed.
It’s a bummer for sure, as I won’t be allowed to start running or all my other normal exercise until early August most likely. But along the way I will be able to slowly add things in as I’m healing. I’m hopeful I can get back to some upper body and core work once I’m more mobile, within about 2 weeks of the surgery. And thanks to the terrific coaches and friends at the gym, I’ll have a good plan mapped out and people watching over me along the way.
In the meantime, I’ve discovered that the Road Runners Club of America has added a running coach certification weekend in May right here in Ohio! Becoming certified as a running coach has been something I’ve thought about for a little while now. As you know I love sharing the knowledge I’ve gained through my journey, and I see this as another way for me to do that. I hadn’t planned to do this certification until later in the year, but it seems silly to pass up the chance to take it right here in Ohio when I won’t have to spend as much on travel. The course is about 2 ½ weeks out from my surgery, so fingers crossed that the surgery goes smoothly and I’m getting around pretty well so that I can sign up. This will be the perfect thing for me to focus on and keep my head in the game while I’m recovering.
I’ve also recently learned of a Keto Coach certification course. I will continue to look into that and see if it’s something I’d like to venture into.
So, I’m spending my weekend doing massive food prep, cleaning and work catch-up in preparation for being off my feet for about a week. Hope everyone’s Saturday is going well! How are you taking care of yourself on this gloomy day?
PS – check out the amazing gift I got from the bestie Sara…..what fantastic friends I have!!
