Well, just got back from my first workout using this new heartrate approach. Wow. I was to do 1 mile at easy pace, 4 miles keeping my heart rate in zones 2-3 (roughly 120-140 beats per minute), and then 1 mile easy. That was tough! My easy miles were way faster than the middle 4! I really had to work and be vigilant to keep my heartrate below 140. But I did it, and here’s hoping I’m finally on the road to shedding these last few pounds…..now I’m off to prepare and plan for dual birthday celebrations with family this evening! Have a great day on this beautiful Saturday!!

Running has become a real passion for me. It all began with hearing what seemed like all my co-workers talking about their daily runs and races. My best friend and I decided to give Couch to 5k a try and the rest is history! Not only has it helped me to lose weight and become more fit, it has been a huge coping mechanism for me in dealing with stress. I always tell people “running makes my brain feel better.” It improves my mood and sense of well-being. I feel like I have gained so much from running that I love helping others who are just getting started.
Run – 8/27/16
I was supposed to run 4 miles yesterday. I skipped it. I do not skip workouts. I was set today for a 7 mile run at long run pace (10:35-10:45). It’s been a very rough week, work-wise, and I just could not persuade myself out of bed yesterday. I was a little worried about how today was going to go. Continue reading Run – 8/27/16
Run – 8/20/16
Today’s run was the culmination of a 30-mile week, my longest ever, 14 miles at long run pace (10:35-10:45). I did 5 miles on Monday, 7 on Wednesday (with some speed work) and 4 on Friday. I was lucky enough to be joined today by 2 ladies from Team Roadblock, Row and Jess! Row started with us and Jess ran 10 of my 14 with me. It’s so nice having someone to run with, definitely keeps me going and on pace, and makes the time go much faster! Continue reading Run – 8/20/16
Run – 7/30/16
Boy oh boy was yesterday an eye opener. I decided to hook up with a local running club to do my weekly long run. I’ve been struggling with getting folks to run with, let alone people who run at the same pace as me. And with my husband’s aversion to me being out on the towpath alone, I thought I’d finally give it a try. I had always been (and am still am) very intimated by this group. The woman who leads it ran the Boston Marathon this year at something like a 7:30 pace! I had always envisioned meeting them in the parking lot and then not seeing them again as they sped away.
